School Websites in Kenya: What Parents Look For Before They Call

Mrs Kemunto has led a private primary and junior school in Kasarani for 14 years. Admissions used to come from word of mouth. But in the last two years, new parents kept saying the same thing at their first visit: “We looked at five schools online first.” Her school’s website had a single page and a phone number.

The short answer

  • Parents compare schools online before they call. Your website should answer their questions before the visit.
  • The essentials: fees (or a fee range), curriculum, admissions steps, transport and meals, real photos and a way to book a visit.
  • Show trust: teachers, results, safety and facilities.
  • A school website costs roughly KSh 80,000–200,000, depending on features such as online applications.

What parents want to know

Question What to show
How much does it cost? Fees per term, or a clear range, plus extras such as transport and meals
What do you teach? CBC, IGCSE or another curriculum, with clubs and co-curricular activities
Is my child safe? Security, staff checks, health and pick-up procedures
Who are the teachers? Short profiles and qualifications
How do I apply? Simple steps, dates, documents and an online form
Can I visit? Book a tour online or on WhatsApp

Photos and video

Parents want to see real classrooms, playgrounds, labs and happy children (with consent). A short video tour of the school does more than any brochure. Avoid stock photos: parents notice.

Keep it updated

Term dates, events, news and results should be easy for your staff to update. An out-of-date website suggests an out-of-date school. See what website maintenance costs in Kenya.

What happened to Mrs Kemunto

Her school’s new website shows fees by grade, the CBC approach, transport routes, a video tour, staff profiles and a form to book a visit. Parents who visit now arrive with their questions already answered.

Visit bookings for the January intake rose from about 15 to 42, and more than half of the families who toured enrolled.

Mrs Kemunto is a composite, based on situations we see often. The numbers are typical, not a promise.
